Silk Road Samarkand: 2024 Achievements and 2025 Outlook

24.01.2025

The "Silk Road Samarkand" tourist complex (STC), the largest in Central Asia, concluded 2024 with impressive results. Over the years, the complex has solidified its position as a hub for international events while expanding its tourism and cultural infrastructure.

Key achievements of this unique destination in Uzbekistan include hosting over 20 major events, a 50% increase in visitor numbers, international awards, and the implementation of eco-friendly energy solutions.

Major events hosted at STC in 2024 included the 14th CMS COP14 Conference, the 120th FIA General Assembly, the World Canoe Sprint Championships, and the 9th AIIB Board of Governors Meeting, attracting over 150,000 guests, including notable figures such as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey.

Visitor numbers surged by 50% compared to the previous year, with 80,028 guests staying in the complex’s eight hotels. Tourists from Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Turkey, and the European Union showed significant interest in the destination.

Awards and Recognitions:

  • Silk Road Samarkand received the Brand of the Year award for leadership in the number and scale of MICE events in Uzbekistan in 2023.
  • Savitsky Plaza Hotel was named Best in Design at the III National Hospitality Awards of Uzbekistan.
  • The Operations Manager of Hilton Garden Inn Sogd was recognized as the Best in Uzbekistan at the same awards.

Infrastructure Developments:
2024 marked the opening of the Waterland Aqua Park, a family-friendly attraction aimed at boosting domestic tourism. Additionally, the launch of the Quran Museum in the "Eternal City" Ethnographic Park added another landmark to Samarkand’s cultural offerings. These new projects complemented the existing infrastructure, providing visitors with even more options for leisure and entertainment.

The complex also continued its commitment to high environmental standards. A solar power plant, launched in 2023 in the Chupon Ota area, supplies clean energy to the complex, including outdoor lighting. In 2024, the installation of solar panels and "Smart Room" systems began, further reducing energy consumption in line with sustainable development goals.
The complex has been certified to international ISO standards, underscoring its adherence to high-quality standards and sustainability practices.

Building on its accomplishments, Silk Road Samarkand aims to strengthen its image as a leading tourism complex in the region.

Key events and projects for 2025 include:

  • Hosting the 43rd UNESCO General Conference;
  • Upgrading hotels Savitsky Plaza, Wellness Park Hotel Turon, and Sogd;
  • Expanding the Bio Lake and Expo Center.

Silk Road Samarkand continues to set high benchmarks in the hospitality industry, showcasing operational excellence and a strong commitment to sustainable development. The complex is not only enhancing Uzbekistan’s position on the global tourism map but also creating new opportunities for cultural and business connections.
