Silk Road Samarkand: first half year results

In February 2023, it will be six months since the launch of New Uzbekistan’s most ambitious project,
the Silk Road Samarkand Tourism Center. We present the results of this period and share the figures.

Silk Road Samarkand was inaugurated on 23rd of August 2022. The solemn ceremony was attended
by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, emphasizing that the project
"has become another striking achievement on the road to building a New Uzbekistan".

The head of state appreciated the uniqueness and vastness of the new recreational and tourist center, noting that its creation became possible, first of all, thanks to the "intellectual potential and selfless
work of the Uzbek people”.

“I congratulate everyone on such a modern, magnificent architectural complex, erected in the ancient and eternally young Samarkand. May it serve our people for many centuries to come!” - Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

About the created infrastructure

To date, the Silk Road Samarkand Tourism Centre has completed the construction of the Eternal City historical and ethnographic park, fourteen Eco Village villas and eight 4-5* hotels, namely:
Samarkand Regency Amir Temur, Silk Road by Minyoun, Savitsky Plaza,
Lia! by Minyoun Stars of Ulugbek and four Wellness Park
Hotels.

The total area of the site is more than 260 hectares, including 40 hectares of the water area
of the National Rowing Canal and about 170 hectares of green areas.
At the complex, especially for the convenience of tourists and guests, more than 39.5 km of pedestrian and 19.5 km of bike paths have been laid.

The total built area is 242.000 m2. The hotel has 1,198 comfortable rooms equipped according to the most modern standards. In addition, there are 14 presidential suites in the complex, which is a record
for Central Asia.
More than 12,000 professionals were involved in the construction of the Silk Road Samarkand, including more than 2,000 from abroad.

Contribution to the development of the region

Uzbek and international experts have repeatedly noted the importance of the center in terms of renewing and expanding the region's tourism infrastructure.
Samarkand Silk Road provides services and facilities to suit almost every taste and the widest range of clientele - from a weekend getaway for the family or an extended holiday with health programs to large-scale convention and exhibition events and business forums. The number and variety of tourist offers, made possible by the application of advanced international standards of construction and operation of the buildings and grounds, as well as the introduction of a high level of hospitality will surprise even the most discerning guests from all over the world.

Among the guests of the complex are citizens of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, the United Arab Emirates, Iran and Azerbaijan. The number of tourists from the European Union, the USA and China is increasing day by day.

Thanks to the creation of the center, new jobs have been created, and the economy of the region and the Republic of Uzbekistan as a whole has developed and diversified.
Thus, during the construction and operation of the center in 2021 and 2022 the total amount of tax payments to the budgets of all levels was 10,872 million SUM.
The number of jobs, primarily for citizens of Uzbekistan, created by Silk Road Samarkand is around 1800.

The amount of investments in the construction of the Samarkand Tourist Center Silk Road Samarkand amounted to $580 million. New investment projects are also planned, including those with international partners.

Business activities and events held

In all, Silk Road Samarkand has already hosted more than two dozen events since its opening, including
the SCO Summit, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, ICT Week Uzbekistan,
the Economic Forum of Uzbekistan, the Summit of the Organization of Turkic States
and many other international and sporting events.

The summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization heads of state, chaired
by Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, took place on 15-16 September 2022 and was one of the key events on the international political agenda. The Silk Road Samarkand congress center was chosen as the venue for the event - the largest in the region, capable of hosting up to 3,500 people at a time. At the same time, the hotels of the Silk Road Samarkand complex, at that time, accommodated more than 1,700 guests from 14 countries of the world.
